What to do
Preá · Jericoacoara · Ceará
Kitesurf
Preá is a world-renowned destination for wind sports, and kitesurfing is our absolute favorite! We highly recommend giving it a try.
For those who would like to truly learn and make the most of the experience, we suggest arriving a few days early and spending a week there with us.
For lessons, we highly recommend Rancho do Kite: +55 88 99969.8306
West Coast
Jericoacoara · Guriú · Tatajuba
The longest and most scenic excursion
in the region!
The journey begins in Preá, following the beach shoreline. As you cross into the Jericoacoara National Park, the dunes and sweeping coastal views are already part of the experience.
Jericoacoara, neighboring Preá, is the region’s most vibrant and popular destination. On the way back, it is well worth a visit for those who would like to explore it.
After crossing the Guriú River by ferry, you arrive in Guriú, where the river meets the sea. With its mangroves, dry mangrove forest, and relaxed atmosphere, it is home to Casa Uca, our recommended lunch stop.
The tour continues to Tatajuba, a fishing village known for its moving dunes and lagoons. If traveling by UTV, it is worth exploring the dunes for a bit more adventure. For families with children, the natural slides at Lagoa Grande are a favorite attraction.
Departure: 10:00 AM · Return: 4:00 PM
(The Guriú River ferries operate
until 5:30 PM.)
Preá → Casa Uca: ~45 minutes by buggy
(UTVs reduce travel time by
approximately 10–15 minutes.)
Preá → Tatajuba: ~1 hour
We recommend going by buggy or UTV, as the route itself is part of the experience. Traveling by 4x4 follows the inland road and misses much of the scenery, and we do not recommend ATVs for this excursion.
East Coast
Barrinha
Easy, close by, and perfect for enjoying at a relaxed pace. This excursion includes Árvore da Preguiça (Lazy Tree), one of the region’s most iconic photo spots, Preá Beach (where the wedding will take place!), and Barrinha Beach, known for its peaceful atmosphere and simple charm.
For lunch, we recommend Komaki or Terral. In the late afternoon, take a buggy or ATV ride to the Barrinha dunes to enjoy the sunset.
Preá → Barrinha: ~15–20 minutes
An ATV or buggy is ideal for this route. A UTV may not be worth it given the short distance and higher cost.
East Coast
Lagoons
Hammocks in the water and tables set along the lagoon’s edge. Lagoa Azul and Lagoa do Paraíso offer a more traditional tourist experience, with access via roads and trails rather than along the beach.
For lunch, we recommend Casa B&B, one of the most secluded and charming spots on the lagoon.
Preá → Lagoa do Paraíso: ~40 minutes
Along the Coast
Fortaleza · Preá
Make the journey part of the experience.
Icaraí de Amontada is known for its long beach, stunning dunes framed by wind turbines, and beautiful sunsets. Nearby, Moitas offers the meeting point of the river and the sea, boat rides through the mangroves, and the famous "Tunnel of Love."
Ilha do Guajiru is the most peaceful and exclusive stop along the route, with ideal kitesurfing winds, calm waters, river inlets, and charming beachfront boutique hotels.
Flecheiras enchants visitors with its coconut groves, natural pools that appear at low tide, and excellent restaurants.
Finally, Mundaú completes the itinerary with its spectacular meeting of the river and the sea. A boat tour along the Mundaú River is considered one of the most beautiful experiences along the Ceará coastline.
Route of Emotions
For those looking to extend their trip, this is the classic Northeastern Brazil itinerary. The route connects Jericoacoara, the Parnaíba River Delta (Piauí), and the Lençóis Maranhenses. Along the way, we recommend stopping in Barra Grande (Piauí), a charming, peaceful village with excellent inns and restaurants, and generally calm waters.
One highlight of the journey is the sunset flight of scarlet ibises, when hundreds of bright red birds cross the sky on their way back to the mangroves.
One thing to keep in mind: November is the peak of the dry season in Lençóis Maranhenses, so the lagoons will have little or no water. Even so, the dunes, the Preguiças River, and the overall experience make the trip well worth it.
Preá → Barra Grande: ~180 km (112 miles)
3–4 hours by car
Recommended itinerary: 2 to 4 days
